What's wrong with the internet?

The article 'Somebody's watching you' features a discussion of developing technological advancements of the internet and social media to pose a debate of whether the benefits of using such technology surpasses the importance of their privacy. It is argued that users should remain conscious of their activity on the internet for one but also be aware of minimal details such as the gadgets and devices they use as sensitive information including location is shared to the institution of the particular device. Personally however I believe that a level of surveillance is imminent and with the power granted to the general public via the technological advancements comes a responsibility and trust which won't necessarily be lived up to. As a result, surveillance also provides a sufficiently correlating amount of safety which levels with the potency of digital media granting enhanced lifestyles to the public.
